WCCO-TV: MINNESOTA-DEVELOPED STRAIN COULD LOWER MEDICAL POT PRICES

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Minnesota organization says it’s developed a new type of cannabis that’s extraordinarily high in the medicinal component of the plant that can be used to treat inflammation and seizures.

Vireo Health says its strain – dubbed “Katelyn Faith,” after an 8-year-old girl from Montevideo who suffered from Battens Disease – contains an enormous amount of cannabidiol (CBD).

CBD and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the two primary medical components in cannabis, Vireo Health says. In a normal marijuana plant, there’s much less CBD than THC.

But in Katelyn Faith, the ratio of CBD to THC is around 34-to-1, Vireo says, citing independent lab testing.

“This is likely the most CBD-rich strain in the world, though it’s difficult to know for sure, because testing is not as rigorous and transparent as it should be,” said Vireo CEO Dr. Kyle Kingsley in a statement.
